At last AirAsia on Wednesday managed to secure the much protected Kuala Lumpur – Singapore route which is supposed to be opened in Jan 1st, 2009. Previously under the agreement signed between the government of Malaysia and Singapore, the lucrative KUL-SIN sector can only be serviced by Malaysia Airline and Singapore Airways. With the route being monopolized by MAS and SIA, air tickets has been priced very high in spite of short flight duration of 40 minutes.
Singapore budget airline, Tiger Airways will be allowed to ply SIN-KUL route in reciprocal of AirAsia approval. AirAsia will start two flights daily to the republic and travelers can expect cheaper air tickets from as low as RM9.99. AirAsia and Tiger Airways are expected to start operations in January.
