Tens of thousands of homes were destroyed when Typhoon Lekima hit Quang Binh province on wednesday. Three were dead and many others were injured when the storm hit Quang Binh province with strong winds of up to 130 kmph. Once Lekima entered neighbouring country, Laos, it had been downgraded to tropical storm.
In central Vietnam, the damaged done were quite severed where the winds ripped up trees and tore down power lines. It had been reported that 33 people were injured by fallen trees or flying debris and more than 29,000 homes in Quang Binh province were destroyed by Lekima. Where else in neighbouring Ha Tinh province 25 people were injured and more than 42,000 homes destroyed or damaged.
The Lekima typhoon had lashed the Philipines, killing at least 5 people before it appeared heading towards China but later changed its course towards Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has classified Vietnam’s coastal area as ‘Extreme Danger’ and early evacuation process by the Vietnamese government had helped to minimize casualty.
